Bheemana Amavasya / Jyotibheemeshwara Vrata

Bheemana Amavasya (also known as Jyotibheemeshwara Vrata) is celebrated on the Amavasya (new moon day) of the Ashadha month. This auspicious day is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, symbolizing eternal marital bliss. On this day, unmarried women pray for a good husband, while married women observe the Vrata for the long life, health, and prosperity of their husbands and brothers. A significant part of the ritual is the Gandae Pooja (Deepa Pooja or Jyoti Pooja), where lamps made of mud or flour (gandae) are lit and worshipped. Devotees prepare a special dish called Kadubu, and the men of the house symbolically break the Kadubu (representing the removal of obstacles) at the end of the pooja.
