Gayatri Japam

Gayatri Japam is observed on the day immediately following the Yajur Veda Upakarma. On this day, individuals who have received the sacred thread (Upanayana) chant the Gayatri Mantra 1008 or 108 times to atone for sins committed (prayaschitta) and to seek spiritual purity and enlightenment.
