Karthika Laksha Deepotsava

Laksha Deepotsava is the grand festival of lighting earthen lamps throughout the Karthika month, holding massive significance in Udupi and all Madhwa Mathas. Devotees light thousands of lamps (deepas) in and around the temples, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance by the light of divine knowledge. The Udupi Sri Krishna Matha observes spectacular Deepotsavas, culminating in a grand chariot festival (Rathotsava) during the Uthana Dwadasi and Poornima.
