📖 About Sri Padmanabha Tirtharu
Shri Padmanabha Tirtha, the 19th Guru of the Gokarna Partagali Jivottama Matha, was born in Honnavar in Saka 1750 (Shravan Shukla Dvitiya). He was initiated into Sannyasa and ordained by his Guru, Shri Poornaprajna Tirtha, on Magha Shukla Panchami of Saka 1761 (Vikari Samvatsara). An erudite scholar, he completed his education in Madhvacharya’s Brahmasutra bhashya, syllogism, grammar, and logic under the direct tutelage of his Guru. The Guru-Shishya duo worked in flawless unison, ensuring seamless administrative and spiritual continuity for the matha. Following tradition, Shri Padmanabha Tirtha undertook numerous pilgrimages to holy sites, including Tirupati, Dhanushkodi, Trivandrum, Manjeshwar, Udupi, Basrur, and Gokarna. During his tenure, he significantly expanded the matha's financial and land assets. Notably, he secured a landmark decree from the Portuguese Government, confirming the pontiff's sole ownership of the Partagali matha and the Ramadeva Temple, while also establishing the position as the final authority on disputes within Hindu temple committees in Portuguese territories. Shri Padmanabha Tirtha attained Vrundavana on Ashadh Shuddha Saptami of Saka 1814 (Nandan Samvatsara) at Partagali, where his sacred shrine remains today.
