📖 About Sri Vijayeendra Tirtharu
Sri Vijayendra Tirtha (originally named Sri Vishnu Tirtha) was a legendary bala sanyasi and intellectual colossus of the Madhva tradition, initially initiated by Sri Vyasaraja Tirtha. Recognizing his extraordinary potential, Sri Surendra Tirtha of the Rayara Matha requested him from Vyasaraja Tirtha during a meeting in Hampi, subsequently performing the danda change ceremony and naming him Vijayendra Tirtha. Gifted in all 64 arts and a prolific writer of 104 granthas, he established his matha at Kumbakonam, transforming the Shaivite stronghold through historic debates at the Kumbeshwara temple, public miracles, and an iconic, lifelong philosophical rivalry with the Advaita titan Appaiya Dikshitar (whom he compassionately guided even on his deathbed). Highly revered for establishing the supremacy of Lord Vishnu while maintaining profound spiritual grace—such as composing a stuti dedicated to Goddess Parvati—his sacred memory is celebrated annually on Jyeshṭha Bahula Trayodashi.
